Check these four things before any price

Screen and charging. A bigger, brighter screen they can read at a glance, and charging that forgives a forgotten day.

At the checked prices the gap is about $82 — and that $82 buys the ECG, the hypertension alerts, and the bigger screen. If health is the point of the gift, that is not the $82 to save. If your parent will only ever use the time, notifications, and sleep tracking, the SE 3 is honestly enough.
Galaxy phone parents: the Watch 8 is the value pick
The Galaxy Watch 9 runs $375.05–$379.99 across the three stores. The Galaxy Watch 8 was $275.00 at Amazon when checked Oct 26 — about 27% less, with a health sensor group that is nearly the same, ECG included. On the Samsung side the value formula works the normal way: last generation, same health core, much less money.
